With the dashboard out I’m using the extra access to address several other things I want to fix.
I removed a bracket that was welded to the steering column to mount the digital display because it made removal of the dashboard difficult. Since I would need a new mount for the digital dash, I chose to also replace the 7″ display with a high aspect ratio 10.4″ display that is more visible through the steering wheel. I designed 4 piece interlocking case for the bare LCD display panel. A simple clamshell design didn’t fit on my printer’s print bed.

I wanted to replace the pin-style steering wheel Quick Release with an SFI rated collar-style. The new QR is thicker so I shortened the race column to avoid moving the steering wheel closer to the driver and welded a new spline on the steering shaft.

I installed a billet turn signal lever on the steering column, replacing the 2-way switch on the console that was difficult to reach without looking away from the road. That freed up a console switch to use for other purposes. The Vintage Air heater kit includes its own set of controls which freed up the console switch I was using for the blower motor.

I removed the huge Lancia defrost vent to install the Vintage Air vents which left a gap between the leading edge of the dashboard and the lower windshield. I need to make something to cover that gap which also closes the gaps near the roll cage, maybe a piece of plastic sheet with a suede fabric covering.
