Update 8/5/22

The car weighs 2,370 lbs without driver.

I’ll add a little weight when I install felt carpeting and outfit the doors, but I’m also considering removing the excess sound deadening from the floor and center console area, only leaving the rear firewall fully covered.

The new front control arms helped low speed straight line stability but the steering is a little heavier—probably the limit of what is tolerable if I left it with manual steering—and it may get worse with newer, stickier tires. I’ll add a few mm’s of toe in to help with stability before driving the car any faster.

The throttle is still difficult to modulate off-idle, so a larger bellcrank arm on the throttle body is a priority. Right now I’m abusing the Southbend Stage 2 clutch pretty badly if I need to start on a hill or come off the line quickly.

Afternoon Update: I connected the throttle cable lower on the pedal arm, welding a new stud in an existing hole, which reduced sensitivity by about 30%. I’m still able to open the throttle body all the way without the pedal bottoming out on the floor. It’s much easier to modulate the throttle now at lower RPMs.

The car feels heavy now that the steering effort is higher (result of additional caster). I ordered a bracket for the electric steering pump. When that arrives, I’ll hook up the power assist to the existing Mustang quick ratio rack.
