I made a lot of progress on the chassis wiring. Switches and gauges all work except water temperature which requires a dedicated sensor. The OEM sensor is being used by the fuel injection and the gauge requires a specific VDO sensor. The horn button and turn signal buttons on the steering wheel are working. I installed a new pedestal tach and replaced the speedometer with a GPS unit that doesn’t require a wheel speed sensor. Wiring for lights is run to all four corners but I still need to install several of the clearance lights and make the final connections. The exterior electric door latches work and the solenoids are installed.
In the front I swapped out the old GM style master cylinder for one that has the correct bore size and has a transparent reservoir so I can see the fluid level. I did a final bleed of the hydraulic system and installed Wilwood DOT3 racing fluid. I put beads on the two primary coolant tubes so the hoses won’t pop off and while the hoses were off I switched to a double-pass radiator which gives me more clearance in the front passenger side for the electric steering pump. I filled and bled the cooling system with the correct Audi fluid that is compatible with the engine. I cut out the screen/grills for the body but I am going to paint them black before attaching. Once the last items are mounted in the front and rear compartments, I’ll go through and apply new chassis paint to the frame where it is scratched or damaged.
Inside the car I installed a full containment seat for the driver’s side. It’s not tight but I won’t move around during even the most aggressive track driving. The rear tail spoiler is so high there is no visibility to the rear except the side view mirrors so I bought an electronic rear view mirror which will use a camera. A windshield for the car is on backorder so I may have to mount the mirror to the existing windshield so I can safely take the car on the street.
