Update 5/24/21

It runs (again)

After all the changes and rewiring, the engine runs again. I’ve got a few leaks to fix and the engine is producing some smoke as it burns off surface residue. The silicone exhaust wrap spray is curing which is causing most of the smoke in the video. I warmed up the engine to about 160 degrees before shutting it off. I think it’s still running very rich.

There is a strange whistle coming from the intake that varies by rpm. It might be coming from air passing through the idle valve which is currently disconnected while I check timing and other startup parameters. Maybe it’s the small speakers on my phone, but the noise is not very loud in person or when I play the clip through my PC speakers.

Maybe it’s worth getting a wideband AFR gauge. The narrow band sensors I’m using don’t show my actual AFR because the engine is running too far outside their measurement range.

Next steps: check timing, get idle valve working, fix AFR mixture.

Update 5/31:
Installed dual Innovative O2 sensors. They passed calibration so they should be ready when I start tuning.
Tightened several fuel fittings that were dripping and they seem okay now.
Replaced the F150 idle valve with a part from the Mustang which others have made to work with TunerStudio.
