I was never happy with the 1996 75mm Mustang throttle body. The bolt pattern is extremely close to the OEM Audi throttle body so I over-drilled the holes on the throttle body and just relied on the tension from the mounting bolts to hold the throttle body, the two spacers and all the associated gaskets in alignment. It never felt like a well engineered solution to replacing the drive by wire OEM throttle body.
Instead I purchased a 1993 BBK throttle body plus an undrilled Edelbrock spacer/adapter. The bolt pattern on the 1993 throttle body is much larger so I was able to drill a new set of recessed holes in the Edelbrock adapter to fit the Audi manifold and then the throttle body is a straight up fit to the adapter. I still have the same number of parts, spacers and gaskets, but the alignment is keyed to the mounting bolts for better alignment.
An added bonus is that the 1993 throttle body has the provision for the IAC valve built right into the throttle body so there are no external hoses or mounting issues for the idle air valve. The only downside is that 1993 style throttle position sensor takes a different plug. After I get the wiring sorted I’ll need to go through the ECU calibration process again for the new TPS.
I mounted the rear fiberglass quarter panels with clecos until I can bond them to the steel chassis with panel adhesive. The panels don’t align very well with the door skin and the rear fiberglass clam shell. I picked a position that will require the least amount of rework but I still have some very large gaps that I need to address after the panels are mounted.
