No updates doesn’t mean no progress. I decided to extend the door sills outwards with side skirts to give the car a more contemporary appearance versus the factory sills which wrap under the car. The side skirts will also serve as the body filler piece behind the front wheels and the latching point for the tilt front.
I’m 90% finished on one of the side skirts this weekend and 50% done on the other. They look okay but I need to encapsulate the wood in fiberglass and reattach. Weight is a little high but it’s down low on the car and they need to survive some abuse including someone accidentally stepping on them as part of the sill. More importantly they will fill in the area behind the front wheels, providing a locating point for the pin that I will attach to the hinged front.
I went with a shape that I think blends with the car’s styling and purpose as an on-road car. I’m not 100% sold on whether it matches the rest of the body but it’s growing on me. The 037 styling is just so good from the factory that I hate to change anything.
I purchased a set of wheel dollys so that I can roll the car around my garage for easier access. There is definitely more weight on the rear of the car at this point. I hope the doors, fuel tank, radiator fluid, etc, will help balance the weight of the car more equally.
