Update 5/19/12

Continuing to work on the side skirts. Design of the filler panel behind the front wheel is almost done. The tilt front will have a plate with tapered pin riveted and fiber-glassed to the rear end. That pin will locate into a metal tube in the filler panel to keep the tilt front body from flapping. The driver’s side door does not have the box section, but even without, you can get a good idea of the side profile which looks good with the side skirts. Continue reading Update 5/19/12

Update 5/14/12

I decided that the car looks better with the side skirts than without. I need to laminate a flat filler panel and attach it to the upright piece behind the front wheel. Afterwards I’ll cover the back side of the side skirts with CSM to fully encapsulate any exposed wood core components. I fabricated a lightweight bracket which is attached to the engine cradle to support the rear of each side skirt. Continue reading Update 5/14/12

Update 5/9/2012

No updates doesn’t mean no progress. I decided to extend the door sills outwards with side skirts to give the car a more contemporary appearance versus the factory sills which wrap under the car. The side skirts will also serve as the body filler piece behind the front wheels and the latching point for the tilt front. I’m 90% finished on one of the side skirts this weekend and 50% done on the other. They look okay but I need to encapsulate the wood in fiberglass and reattach.
